Subject Description

Overview Information:

This Physical Education course will give students the opportunity to learn about anatomy, biomechanics, energy systems, psychology and societal influences on sport. Much of this will be delivered through engaging practical learning situations. This course will also have a unit on adolescent health issues. 


How and what will I learn at Level 1, 2, and 3? 

This course will comprise units covering broad aspects of sports: Societal Influences; Human Performance and Psychology; Biomechanics and Anatomy; Health and Wellbeing; and Sports Education. 


Students completing this course will develop an understanding of: 

•     Anatomy/biomechanics/exercise physiology 

•     Societal influences 

•     Sports performance 

•     Sports education: coaching / leadership / personal training / event management /    player management 

•     Skill analysis including psychology 

•     Health and well-being 


Sports Science Level 1 


This course focuses on level 6 of the Health and Physical Education curriculum.  It will offer you the opportunity to experience and participate in a wide range of physical activities, in a variety of contexts. It will also help develop your understanding to become a better athlete, performer and coach.

    

Description:     

The foundation Physical Education course contributes 20 credits towards the Level 1 National Certificate in Educational Achievement (NCEA) and is covered in three Modules of work. Modules one and two are assessed against two Achievement Standards, with the exception of module three assessed against one.

Subject Overview

Term 1
Module 1: ATHLETICS (Assessed against 1.3, 1.2)
Through participation in three athletic events, students will describe the key factors affecting performance.
Students will analyze and describe movements associated with execution of athletic movements. Students will identify and explain anatomical, biomechanical and exercise physiological changes that occur in response to exercise.

Term 2
PARTICIPATION IN VARIOUS ACTIVITIES (Assessed against 1.5)
Students will have ongoing reflections that outline their use of interpersonal skills while engaging in physical activity.

MY ACTIVE LIFESTYLE (Assessed against 1.1 and 1.6)
Through taking part in a variety of different physical activities over the year, students will describe and explain how certain factors influenced their participation in these activities.
Students will also be required to select a physical activity that they are actively involved in or from options including but not limited to badminton & volleyball.

Term 3
MY ACTIVE LIFESTYLE (Assessed against 1.1 and 1.6)
Through taking part in a variety of different physical activities over the year, students will describe and explain how certain factors influenced their participation in these activities.

Semester A
Module 1:
This module has an assessment based on athletic performance which requires you to complete three events (run, jump & throw) which will be held against the five star athletic chart. Students will also analyze their movement and describe the function of the body as it relates to the performance of athletic activity
Module 2:
This module requires students to display, explain and reflect on their use of various interpersonal skills and the impact they have on others (1.5)
Module 3:
An electronic diary/blog/wiki will be completed and presented to the teacher at the end of the module. (1.1)Requires a report completed by students at the end of the module.(1.3)
